Gervonta Davis Called Out By ‘Savage’ Former World Champion

A former world featherweight champion claims a showdown with Gervonta Davis will happen in the future.

‘Tank’ Davis currently reigns as the WBA lightweight champion, with his most recent title defence coming against fellow countryman Lamont Roach Jr in New York City on March 1.

In a closely fought yet controversial contest, the fight was actually declared a majority decision draw although many viewers felt Roach had done more than enough to dethrone Davis and hand him the first defeat of his career.

A rematch between the pair had been scheduled to take place this month, but after a number of failed negotiations it appears that these plans have now been shelved for the time being.

As Davis prepares to go down an entirely different route for his return to the ring, the 30-year-old from Baltimore appears to have been targeted by former WBA featherweight champion Raymond ‘Savage’ Ford.

Speaking to iFL TV, Ford welcomed a showdown with his fellow countryman in the future, as he claims he must continue ‘building his profile’ to stake his claim as a potential opponent for the three-weight world champion.

“Yeah, as long as I keep winning and doing what I do, you know, building my profile I think he’s definitely gonna be looking at me like ‘Yeah, we can make that fight happen for sure’;”

Ford is set to make his first ring appearance since April this Saturday night as he faces Puerto Rico’s Abraham Nova at the ANB Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

The 26-year-old from New Jersey was scheduled to face former IBF super-featherweight champion Anthony Cacace initially, before the Belfast native was forced to pull out of the fight with an injury.
