Why Rules For Mike Tyson vs. Floyd Mayweather was Revealed

Confirms Rules for Planned Fight With Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson says his planned exhibition fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. in Democratic Republic of the Congo will have no weight limit.

Tyson revealed the details during a recent interview with veteran combat sports journalist Ariel Helwani. The 59-year-old said he has already signed the agreement and still expects the bout to take place on April 25 in Africa.

He described the matchup as a free-weight, catchweight-style exhibition, confirming that neither fighter will face a weight restriction.

“There’s no weight limit,” Tyson said, outlining the unusual rules for the contest.

Size Difference Between the Fighters

The weight gap between the two fighters remains significant.

Tyson weighed just under 229 pounds when he faced Jake Paul in a November 2024 exhibition bout. By contrast, Mayweather has usually competed around the mid-150-pound range.

The undefeated former champion reached a career-high of just under 161 pounds during his 2024 exhibition against John Gotti III.

Fight Date and Location

Despite speculation that organizers might postpone the event, Tyson insists the fight will proceed as scheduled on April 25.

He made the statement even though he recently suffered a minor injury and has trained while wearing a cast.

Several outlets, including The Ring Magazine, have reported that organizers plan to stage the event in Kinshasa, the capital of Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Government officials in the country have publicly supported the proposal. Among them is Vice Premier Minister Mobutu Nzanga Ngbangawe, who described the event as an opportunity to bring a historic boxing spectacle back to the nation.

Historic ‘Rumble in the Jungle’ Connection

Tyson also revealed an ambitious promotional plan.

Organizers hope to use the same ring from the historic Rumble in the Jungle fight in 1974. That legendary bout saw Muhammad Ali defeat George Foreman in the eighth round to reclaim the heavyweight title.

Promoters view the historical connection as a major marketing angle. Several media outlets, including TNT Sports, have highlighted Tyson’s claim that he and Mayweather could share the same canvas Ali once used to shock Foreman.

However, promoters have not yet issued official confirmation about the venue or whether they can realistically use the original ring.

Exhibition Rules and Safety Concerns

More details about the rules continue to emerge.

Organizers expect the fight to last eight rounds, with each round running two minutes. Fighters will likely wear 14- or 16-ounce gloves to reduce the impact of punches.

The exhibition format means the result will not affect either fighter’s official record.

Still, the matchup has raised safety concerns. Tyson and Mayweather have a combined age of more than 100 years, and the potential 70-pound weight difference could intensify scrutiny from regulators and medical officials if the April 25 Congo event receives final approval.

Why Mike Tyson vs Floyd Mayweather Bout to Have Surprising Rule

The bout is scheduled for April 25, 2026, in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Scheduled for April 2026 in the Democratic Republic of Congo and dubbed a “Legend vs. Legend” showcase, the event is being heavily marketed for its historical parallels, given it’s being hosted in the same region as the 1974 Rumble in the Jungle, the historic fight between Muhammad Ali vs George Foreman.

According to Tyson, the bout will have one surprising rule, which he revealed during an appearance on The Ariel Helwani Show.

Tyson vs Mayweather has no weight limit

Tyson explained the weight limit stipulation for the bout, saying “It’s just free fighting, catchweight, everything…”

Other modifications to the rules of the bout include eight two-minute rounds and heavier 14 or 16-ounce gloves, which will account for the size disparity. Tyson typically weighs over 220 lbs, while Mayweather has never fought above 150 lbs.

Tyson also went on to admit that he suffered an injury while training for the fight.

“It’s just a little sprain. I’ve got to go hard,” Tyson added. “It’s the only way I know how to go.”

Tyson slams today’s boxers for not fighting enough.

Elsewhere in the interview, Tyson said that his fight against Mayweather may be his last. He also took shots at today’s boxers because they don’t fight as much as the previous generation of fighters.

“This is what fighters should be thinking right now about me. ‘How can this guy be 60 years old and break all the records?” Tyson said. “They should be disappointed with themselves. They fight once or twice a year. No one knows who they are. They need to have a story behind them.”

“It’s not that they’re getting paid too much, they just don’t wanna do it. If you like getting paid a lot of money, why not do that three times a year instead of once? It’s a no-lose situation,” Tyson continued. “It’s all up, all a win. You’re fighting, getting in shape, and getting paid more money than you ever did before.”

For Mayweather, 2026 will be his most active year in the ring in more than a decade. Along with the Tyson exhibition, Money will take on 18-time kickboxing world champion Mike Zambidis in another exhibition at the Telekom Center in Athens, Greece. And in what is considered an even bigger boxing event, Mayweather is signed on for a sanctioned rematch against Manny Pacquiao on September 19 at the Sphere in Las Vegas

Mike Tyson confirms his next fight after losing to Jake Paul

Tyson enjoyed a legendary professional career that spanned 20 years.

Mike Tyson's fight with Jake Paul has been postponed after Tyson's health episode – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth

He made his debut in 1985 before calling it quits after his shock defeat to Ireland’s Kevin McBride in 2005.

But ‘Iron’ Mike resumed his storied career when he fought Paul in November 2024.

His bout against Paul took place at Arlington’s AT&T Stadium and attracted a huge viewing audience on Netflix, who claim it was watched by 60 million households around the world.

Tyson, however, didn’t put up too much of a fight even though he took Paul the distance.

After their clash, the 59-year-old made a worrying admission.

Despite his lacklustre showing, Tyson has confirmed that he will be making another return to the sport.

He was linked with a bout against Floyd Mayweather and he claims it is still happening, although an official announcement has yet to be made.

Asked if his proposed match-up against Mayweather is still in the works, Tyson told TMZ Sports: “Yeah, it’s happening. Sh*t, yeah, it’s happening!

“You think I’d give that up?! I was minding my business! He challenged me.

“We are going to party afterwards, baby! We’ll have a ball afterwards!”

On his health, having suffered an ulcer flare-up that postponed the original meeting against Paul, the boxing icon added: “I feel incredible.

“Listen I was an extra large [pulls at t-shirt] but we are a large now.”

Why is Floyd Mayweather fighting Mike Tyson?

Mayweather called time on his storied pro career after reaching 50-0 following his victory over Conor McGregor in a money-spinning Las Vegas showdown in August 2017.

He beat the likes of Manny Pacquiao, Canelo Alvarez and Oscar De La Hoya before walking away from the sport.

But ‘Money’ returned to action with high-profile, lucrative exhibitions, including bouts against Logan Paul and KSI’s brother, Deji.

His bout against Tyson will likely be another exhibition and given both of their star power, it will be a clash viewed by millions around the world.

Even though Mayweather retired from pro boxing, he is still in the business of exhibitions and the ex-world heavyweight champion is an ideal dance partner.

Tyson is not only a universally recognised figure but also showed he can lace a pair of gloves and make the walk albeit an underwhelming showing against Paul.

The date and location of the fight were confirmed by Mike Coppinger of Ring Magazine, as reported by radio network Talksport.

The two fighters shocked the boxing world last September when they announced they would step into the ring for an exhibition duel in this year’s calendar.

After that the situation was immediately calm and there was no clear news from both camps so that boxing lovers began to believe that the news of a clash between the two names seemed unlikely to happen.

Then in December came the latest news about the fight. At that time Tyson hinted that places in Africa were being considered as the location of their clash.

The information does not immediately strengthen the fans’ confidence. They consider the fight seems to be just a mere fantasy.

Kickboxing champion Mike Zambidis then announced that he would face Mayweather on June 27 in Athens. It was considered the final blow to the plan for a fight between Tyson and Mayweather.

Tyson in an interview with TMZ this month reiterated his belief that the fight would materialize before being reinforced by Coppinger’s latest information.

“Yes, this really happened. Damn, yes, this really happened! You think I’m going to give up? Right now I’m busy with personal affairs! He challenged me,” said Tyson.

Tyson’s plans to return to the boxing ring have sparked concerns. The veteran fighter is already in old age so his decision to return to boxing is considered too risky.

Tyson claimed that he almost died while preparing for his professional comeback fight in 2024 against Jake Paul.

Currently, the Concrete Neck looks in good physical condition and continues to undergo light training. However, it is still unclear whether he is able to return to intensive training to fight Mayweather.

In addition, the large weight difference between Tyson and Mayweather makes their duel unlikely to be allowed.

The American heavyweight legend stunningly announced he would face fellow boxing royalty Floyd Mayweather in an exhibition fight.

It was originally touted for spring of this year, but things quickly went quiet.

Tyson then suggested the bout was indeed set to take place, with venues in Africa being considered.

But 18-time kickboxing champion Mike Zambidis then stunningly appeared to announce he would be facing Mayweather on June 27 in Athens, Greece.

That appeared to be the damaging final nail in the coffin of the clash.

But a confident Tyson still thinks it will materialise, insisting it was ‘Money’ who made the first call.

He told TMZ: “Yeah, it’s happening. S***t, yeah, it’s happening!

“You think I’d give that up?! I was minding my business! He challenged me.

“We are going to party afterwards, baby! We’ll have a ball afterwards!”

From Mike Tyson purse to motorsports dream: Jake Paul builds racetrack ranch in Georgia

Jake Paul has opened the gates to what may be the most ambitious post-fight purchase in recent boxing history: a $40 million ranch in Georgia that he’s transforming into a private motorsport and lifestyle compound. The property-spanning roughly 6,000 acres-was funded in large part by Paul’s purse from his high-profile bout with Mike Tyson in late 2024, followed by additional earnings from subsequent fights.

While recovering from a double jaw fracture sustained in a later bout, Paul posted a detailed video tour of the land, explaining how the project-nicknamed “Paul Reserve”-is only getting started.

We will be putting an airstrip to land the Global Express Paul Air. This will be a full-on landing strip where we can land the plane… and we will be weaving in a full-on F1 track throughout this area where it’s completely flat.

From boxing purse to racetrack vision for Paul

Paul’s idea flips the usual supercar-owner formula. Instead of collecting rare vehicles first and finding places to drive them later, he’s building the infrastructure first. “I have these nice cars, everyone has nice cars but then they’re just driving them on the highway. I wanted to do things in reverse. Build the racetrack so I can actually drive the cars.”

His plan goes beyond personal use. Paul envisions a membership-based race club where enthusiasts can own homes along the track, store cars on-site, and even fly in via the private runway. “I’m going to turn this into a membership club where people can have houses on the track… use the track whenever they want, land the plane on the airstrip and create this sort of race club.”

The flat Georgia terrain was key to the decision. According to Paul, many scenic ranch locations lacked the consistent, level ground required for both a jet-capable runway and a proper circuit layout.

What Paul’s ranch already includes

The property is far from empty. A three-mile driveway leads to four houses and a large workshop. There’s also a fully equipped boxing gym with a ring where Paul trains while on-site, multiple equipment storage buildings, and even a private fuel station for vehicles used across the ranch.

Water access was another must-have.

I needed to be on a lake where you can wake surf, jet ski, go crazy.

Jake Paul

He also emphasized climate as a deciding factor.

“I didn’t want it to ever get cold… I wanted to be able to come to this property all year round and have good weather.” Despite the scale of what’s been built, Paul admits he hasn’t explored much of it yet, estimating he’s seen less than a fifth of the land due to its vast open fields.

For now, construction continues while Paul recovers. But if the plans materialize, the Georgia ranch won’t just be a retreat-it will be a destination blending aviation, motorsports, boxing, and luxury living into a single private playground.

‘He’ll be a Human Punch Bag’ – Sad Truth About Mike Tyson Fighting Floyd Mayweather

The announcement that Mike Tyson will face off against Floyd Mayweather in an exhibition match next year and sparked huge reaction on social media and now, one of Money’s former opponents has offered his verdict on the fight and on Iron Mike’s chances against the undefeated icon.

The last few years have seen a number of boxing greats briefly come out of retirement to compete in exhibition bouts against celebrities, combat sports athletes or other former boxers. The likes of Roy Jones Jr and Evander Holyfield have both stepped back into the ring in recent years. As have Mayweather and Tyson. The former came out of retirement to take on Logan Paul, Deji Olatunji and Aaron Chalmers among others in exhibition bouts, while the latter lost to Jake Paul in an official boxing match.

Now, they’re set to face each other and what would have been considered a dream match with both men being two of the greatest boxers ever, but with Tyson closing in on his 60th birthday, it’s safe to say his best days are long behind him and one of Mayweather’s former opponents is worried about Iron Mike’s chances and his health.

Ricky Hatton is Concerned For Tyson

During Mayweather’s prime, in the middle of his dominance across boxing, he faced off against Ricky Hatton. The Brit was also undefeated at the time, with an incredible 43-0 record heading into their bout in 2007. He was no match for Money, though, and experienced his greatness firsthand via a 10th round TKO loss. As a result, he knows exactly what Money can do and he’s worried about Tyson following the announcement of their match next year.

Shortly before the 59-year-old’s loss to Jake Paul, his health was brought under the spotlight when it was reported that he’d almost died just months earlier due to an ulcer flare-up onboard a plane. As a result, Hatton has slammed those around Tyson who are allowing him to get into the ring with someone like Mayweather and he thinks the former heavyweight champion will merely be a punching bag for his opponent.

Speaking exclusively to Metro, Hatton said:

“In normal circumstances, given the size difference, you would probably be more worried about Floyd’s well-being, but I think the opposite. I don’t think Mike will get near him and he’ll be a human punching bag to be honest. Mike’s approaching sixty, and you saw from his last fight that he’s well and truly past it. I think Mike could really end up getting hurt. I’m not sure I even believe it yet, to be honest, but it would be bad for boxing if it is allowed.

“There’s no winner. If Mike somehow hits Floyd and flattens him, then people will say ‘Look at the size difference, it shouldn’t have been allowed’. But if Floyd goes in there and boxes his head off and uses him as a punching bag then people will say ‘We knew that was going to happen.’ So there’s no positives to come out of it except a lot of dough, which clearly is the only thing people are thinking about.”

The contest is set to take place sometime in Spring 2026 with the location and venue yet to be disclosed.

Terence Crawford is days away from his mega fight against Canelo Alvarez in Las Vegas.

With just over a week remaining, news of another big fight hit the boxing world like a freight truck. Coming off his unanimous decision loss to Jake Paul last year, Mike Tyson is returning to the ring one more time to square off against the undefeated Floyd Mayweather next year for an exhibition fight. And Crawford just made things interesting.

The two-weight undisputed champion appeared on the Full Send Podcast with host Kyle Forgeard. The pair discussed a plethora of subjects, including his upcoming bout, but the real fun began when Forgeard brought up Mayweather and Tyson. He pressed Terence Crawford about his thoughts on facing both fighters in their prime, asking for a prediction in both scenarios from the Nebraskan technician. And Crawford didn’t hold anything back with his answers.

Terence Crawford has zero doubt about his take

“Me,” Crawford quickly responded when asked who would win in a fight between a prime Floyd Mayweather and himself. “Why would you think that I would say Floyd?” Stunned by Crawford’s confidence, Forgeard admitted he expected Crawford to hesitate. But ‘Bud’ doubled down, clarifying, “No, not at all.” Still, he made sure to acknowledge that Mayweather was one of the fighters he admired during his prime.

When asked about past greats he would have loved to face, the undefeated champion rattled off a list of legends. “It’s a lot, you know,” Crawford said. “If I [could] go back in history, it’d be Roberto Durán. It’d be Julio Cesar Chavez Sr., Sugar Ray Leonard, Marvin Hagler, those types of fighters.” The host then posed a hypothetical: a prime-for-prime matchup with Mike Tyson, if Tyson had been Crawford’s size.

“If Mike Tyson [were] my size… I would beat him, easy…,” Crawford declared. He even broke down what made Tyson so dangerous in his era. “I think Mike Tyson beat those guys because he was faster and more explosive than those heavyweight guys. When you look at Mike Tyson back in the day, he was ferocious. You know, this is speed and power and explosiveness combined like they couldn’t keep up with it.”

Clearly, Crawford thinks he can beat both Tyson and Mayweather, but what is the secret to overcoming such skilled opponents?

Crawford reveals how to beat Floyd Mayweather

Floyd Mayweather may have looked undefeatable throughout his illustrious career, as he took over the sport of boxing and retired undefeated. However, Terence Crawford thinks there’s a way of beating Floyd Mayweather. During an appearance on the Ring Champs podcast, the 37-year-old revealed the secret to penetrating Mayweather’s defense.

Crawford joked, “You’ve got to have four arms and six eyes to beat Floyd.” He also admitted he would have taken the fight had their relationship been different at the time. “Floyd yeah [I would’ve fought him] because I wasn’t as close, me and Floyd are close now, but when Floyd was boxin,g I wasn’t as close with Floyd like I am now.”

Floyd Mayweather and Mike Tyson to fight each other in blockbuster 2026 showdown… and both have ALREADY signed contracts

Mike Tyson and Floyd Mayweather, two of boxing’s most legendary names, are set to face off against each other in 2026 in a blockbuster exhibition fight.

Both iconic fighters are long retired from the sport but will pull on the gloves once again for a spring showdown, and contracts are already signed, per TMZ.

Tyson, 59, sparked serious health concerns when he returned to the ring last year for an exhibition against Jake Paul, and a match-up against an opponent like Mayweather is set to further increase that.

Though Mayweather himself is 48 – and will be 49 by the time he steps back in the ring – he holds a 50-0 professional record and is still in incredible shape.

The match between two of the sport’s most legendary figures will be put on by CSI Sports and Fight Sports, and an exact date and location are yet to be decided.

When Tyson last fought – a loss against YouTube sensation Paul – it took place live on Netflix at the Dallas Cowboys‘ AT&T Stadium.

In a statement released to TMZ, Tyson said of the announcement: ‘This fight is something neither the world nor I ever thought would or could happen.

‘However, boxing has entered a new era of the unpredictable – and this fight is as unpredictable as it gets.

‘I still can’t believe Floyd wants to really do this. It’s going to be detrimental to his health, but he wants to do it, so it’s signed and it’s happening!’

Mayweather also responded to the news, claiming: ‘I’ve been doing this for 30 years and there hasn’t been a single fighter that can tarnish my legacy.

‘You already know that if I am going to do something, it’s going to be big and it’s going to be legendary. I’m the best in the business of boxing. This exhibition will give the fans what they want.’

Mayweather last fought professionally in 2017 against Conor McGregor in one of the most-watched fights in history, though he has stepped back into the ring multiple times since.

His last fight was a second exhibition against John Gotti III in August 2024 in Mexico City.

A remarkable 108 million people tuned in on Netflix to Tyson’s fight with Paul last year, and early indications are that this showdown between two of boxing’s biggest legends could draw even more excitement.
