The fighter Mayweather calls his successor set to fight on Pacquiao rematch undercard

Following the announcement of the rematch between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao, fans are anticipating a blockbuster undercard to support a high-profile main-event.

Now, the man who Mayweather himself tipped as his successor has let slip that he expects to appear on the bill.

Mayweather and Pacquiao collided back in 2015, where Mayweather scored a legendary unanimous decision win to become the unified three-belt welterweight world champion and take the bragging rights over his long-term rival.

Now, 11 years on from that mammoth event, the two pound-for-pound greats are set to run it back in September, in what is sure to be one of the biggest nights of boxing in the 2026 calendar, with an intriguing undercard expected to support the headline attraction.

In an interview with Pro Boxing Fans, Mayweather’s protégé, Curmel Moton, revealed that he believes he will fight on the undercard.

“I can’t really confirm [that I am on the card], not at the moment, but I feel like there is a very good, high-percentage chance that I definitely will be on the card. Co-main, hopefully, we will see but I definitely should be on that card, for sure.”

Moton has won all eight of his professional contests to date, registering six wins inside of the distance, but the Salt Lake City-born youngster admitted his excitement at the prospect of just attending a true Mayweather fight, as well as fighting on the card.

“I’m excited to see Floyd back and 100% locked in to boxing, not in an exhibition. His record is on the line so there is going to be a lot more at stake, he is going to be working a lot harder and he is going to be a lot more focussed.

“I’m excited, I have never been to a real, actual Floyd fight, so this will be the first one, and I will be on the undercard too, so it’s going to be dope.”

19-year-old Moton has been linked to an intriguing affair with Britain’s Giorgio Visioli, who claims to have bested the American in sparring sessions in the past.

However, it remains to be seen whether Moton will be thrown into deep waters, in such a difficult fight on the biggest of stages.

Amir Khan predicts Mayweather vs Pacquiao 2: “He’s winning this one”

Amir Khan targeted blockbuster fights with both Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao during his career, and has now offered a prediction for their rematch on September 19.

Netflix announced last week that the two pound-for-pound legends will square off at the Sphere, Las Vegas, with their professional contest being streamed live on Netflix.

Their first encounter, back in 2015, saw Mayweather claim a convincing points victory, coming away with the WBC, WBO and WBA world welterweight titles.

Since then, though, the Hall of Famer has amassed just two professional wins – against Andre Berto and Conor McGregor – while also being involved in several exhibition matches.

Pacquiao, too, has kept himself ticking over with the odd exhibition, but also fought professionally when he tied with Mario Barrios, the then-WBC welterweight champion, in July.

This came after a near four-year hiatus from the professional ring, with his previous title fight resulting in a unanimous points defeat to Yordenis Ugas.

It is the 47-year-old’s apparent lifestyle choices, though, that have largely inspired Khan to give him the edge over Mayweather in their rematch.

Sharing his opinion on Facebook, the former world champion highlighted Pacquiao’s consistency in the gym as a significant factor against his 49-year-old opponent.

“I like Manny Pacquiao in the second one, because I think Mayweather’s slowing down a little bit.

“Age catches up on you, and I think with Manny always looking in good shape – obviously he’s not partying, not drinking; Mayweather’s always partying, chilling, enjoying himself – I think there’s a different way of living for both fighters.

“Mayweather’s still like a 20-year-old kid, whereas Manny Pacquiao’s very intelligent and he’s on the right path.

“I’ve got Manny Pacquiao winning that fight. But who knows? Mayweather always ends up pulling it off. But I feel that Manny Pacquiao [is] the favourite.”

While Mayweather was always known for his tremendous discipline and work ethic, the lack of a professional contest since 2017 could have a bearing on his overall performance against Pacquiao.

Many would argue, too, that his 10th-round stoppage victory over McGregor hardly merited the status of a professional bout.

Manny Pacquiao Joining TBL Casts Doubt on Floyd Mayweather Jr Rematch

Former eight-division world champion Manny Pacquiao is set to return to boxing with the Team Boxing League, according to a media statement from the league.

“[Manny] Pacquiao will initially serve as a League Ambassador before transitioning into the ownership group. Most notably for fans, he is set to return to the ring as a Team Captain and active fighter for the San Diego TJ’s, one of the league’s newest expansion franchises,” said TBL in a press release.

The former senator in his native Philippines has signed to be part of the league through 2029. If he will compete beyond that season remains unclear.

Pacquiao will join the San Diego TJ’s this season, which has yet to be formed. While Pacquiao has a home in Southern California, he has no prior ties to San Diego, though his son, now a professional fighter, once competed in amateur matches there.

Joining the TBL, though, may nix the potential match between Pacquiao and his old nemesis, Floyd Mayweather Jr.

How big was Pacquiao vs Mayweather ?

The 2015 welterweight showdown between these two was billed as the “Fight of the Century.”
Mayweather won a unanimous verdict in the 12 rounds (118–110, 116–112, 116–112). It was a much closer affair than those scores show, and a rematch between the two would certainly attract a large number of casual fans

Pacquiao’s position as IBA vice president raised the possibility that the new fight between the two could be for the IBA title. The IBA is one of the oldest international boxing organizations, with roots developing amateur boxing going back into the early 20th century.

With Olympic boxing selection currently being conducted by a rival organization, the IBA has expanded its focus to other areas, including bare-knuckle boxing. They have also sanctioned a limited number of IBA world titles. The main appeal of such belts is that they are organized by the IBA with all the standards of a professional fight, but don’t affect a fighter’s professional record.

Bottom line: Mayweather’s claim to fame, his undefeated 50-0 record, would be safe if he were to step into the ring in the spring of 2026 against his Filipino rival for an IBA title.

Pacquiao brings star power to the TBL. The Hall of Fame fighter is increasingly expanding his role in the sport and will be a big asset for the league.

“I believe in the vision of TBL and what this league is building for the future of boxing,” said Manny Pacquiao. “Team boxing brings a new level of excitement, strategy, and opportunity for fighters and fans. I’m proud to be part of TBL and look forward to contributing both inside and outside the ring.”

In May, the iconic Wild Card Boxing Club marked its 30th anniversary – a gym that became synonymous with boxing greatness. It was here that Manny Pacquiao rose to global stardom, where Hollywood names like Mark Wahlberg and Mickey Rourke trained, and where Baba Sumaila – affectionately known simply as ‘Baba’ – worked side by side with legendary trainer Freddie Roach.

Sadly, Baba has passed away. The news was confirmed through an Instagram post from the gym, which shared a heartfelt tribute to him. Details surrounding his death, including when, where, and how it occurred, remain unclear. Not much is publicly known about Baba, but the somber farewell from Wild Card suggests he had been a long-standing and respected presence within the gym’s community.

The final goodbye from the place that made Manny Pacquiao

Addressing Baba’s passing, Wild Card Boxing Club shared a picture of him on Instagram with the caption, “Devastating news for our Wild Card Boxing family. Our Baba has passed away. Baba, we love you. We will cherish our memories of you. You will be remembered and continue to be loved to live on in our hearts and minds. Rest well and be at peace 🕊️ with love from your Wild Card Boxing family 🕊️.”

Baba was never one to seek attention on social media. In fact, he shared only two photos of himself on Instagram. The first, posted in July 2015, showed him inside the boxing club – already a familiar presence within its walls. Behind him, pictures of Freddie Roach and other fighters decorated the gym. He captioned it simply, “Love to all friends Godbless.”

Years later, Baba uploaded his second and final photo, as if he had nearly forgotten about the account. This time, he was outdoors, standing before a hillside, offering a faint smile in a selfie. He wrote, “The sky is a beautiful blessing to all have a wonderful weekend people God bless?” BoxRec lists a fighter named Baba Sumaila with a record of 0-2 in the professional ranks and 1-1 as an amateur, though it remains unconfirmed whether this was the same Baba from Wild Card.

According to the site, the fighter hailed from Ghana and resided in Lagos, Nigeria, before moving to the United States. Regardless, since the news of his death, Wild Card’s farewell post has been met with an outpouring of tributes from fellow boxers, trainees, and fans worldwide – each remembering the man they knew simply as Baba.

Freddie Roach bids farewell to an old friend

Roach, Manny Pacquiao’s coach, must have watched Baba around the gym where they have worked together for years. Upon his passing, he commented on the post, writing, “You will be missed, Baba, my friend.” The 65-year-old started the gym in 1995.

Another user who trained in the gym recalled their interaction with Baba. “The few times I interacted with Baba were always pleasant. My condolences to Baba’s family and the wildcard family,” the user commented. Now, there will be one less friendly face in the gym.

Someone else who trained under Baba chimed in. “Baba, you will be missed, my friend. Loved training with you. Shoeshine !!! ❤️,” the user commented. Wild Crad Boxing Club is one of the best in the country, thanks to people like Baba who have helped shape the gym’s future.

“RIP Baba my wildcard trainer. Blessing to his family 🥊,” another user commented. Unfortunately, details about his personal life remain a mystery.

Meanwhile, this user shared their condolences for the Wild Card gym and Baba’s family. “God reward Baba in the next life. My sincerest condolences to the Wildcard Family ❤️,” the user commented. Baba rests in peace now.

While not much is known about the man everyone at the gym simply called Baba, the outpouring of messages on social media makes one thing clear – he was a significant part of the Wild Card family, and a presence that may never be replaced.

Floyd Mayweather Names The Opponent That Stood Out In His 50 Fight Career

Floyd Mayweather Jr is often regarded as being one of, if not the greatest fighter to have ever laced up the gloves.

He burst onto the scene during the late 1990, entering the paid ranks just a few months after he captured a Featherweight Bronze Medal at the 1996 Summer Olympic Games in Atlanta, Georgia.

‘Money’ would go on to become a world champion in no less than five weight classes during his tenure, ranging from super-featherweight up to super-welterweight where he defeated the likes of Juan Manuel Marquez, Oscar De La Hoya and Manny Pacquiao along the way.

Known for his outstanding defensive skills, Mayweather remained unbeaten throughout the course of his 21-year professional career, defeating each and every one of the 50 opponents that he crossed paths with.

Speaking on the Million Dollaz Worth Of Game Podcast, Mayweather gave an insight into his 2015 ‘Fight of the Century’ with Filipino icon Pacquiao and reveals exactly why ‘PacMan’ was the best fighter he ever faced.

“The best fighter I ever fought probably was Manny Pacquiao.

“It’s because of his movement. He’s a hell of a fighter, and I can see why he won so many fights, and I can see why he’s going down as a Hall of Famer. It’s just certain moves he makes.”

Although their monumental showdown in Las Vegas failed to live up to expectations, boxing fans were treated with a fight for the ages when the former pound-for-pound stars locked horns for the unified welterweight championship in May of 2015.

Mayweather got the nod on all three of the judges scorecards on the night, handing the Filipino icon the sixth defeat of his glittering professional career, where he became a world champion in eight weight divisions, a record breaking accomplishment for one of the greatest fighters to have ever graced the sport.

After Fiery Warning: “Manny Pacquiao Drops Explosive Showdown With Gervonta Davis — But ‘Barrios Comes First’”

LAS VEGAS — If Manny Pacquiao beats WBC welterweight champion Mario Barrios on July 19, competition will line up for the chance to face the newly crowned 46-year-old titleholder.
Pacquiao has worked with PBC in his last four fights dating to 2019, and if business is going to continue to boom under Al Haymon’s umbrella, one of the most lucrative fights that can be made in house is between Pacquiao and Gervonta Davis.
Davis is next supposed to face Lamont Roach Jr. following their hotly contested and controversial majority draw in March, but the former was arrested Friday for domestic violence charges that could throw the timing of their Aug. 16 sequel in doubt.
“I like the Davis fight, but let’s finish Barrios first,” Pacquiao told The Ring before the arrest. “It’s nothing personal. I am just doing my job. One at a time. We’ll talk about it after the fight.”

A tilt with Tank has been floated ever since Pacquiao started teasing his comeback in 2023 after retiring two years earlier following a unanimous decision defeat to Yordenis Ugas. At the time, Pacquiao even suggested a 145-pound catchweight to lure in the WBA lightweight champion Davis.
Gervonta davis
Pacquiao (62-8-2, 39 KOs) and Davis (30-0-1, 28 KOs) are both 5 foot 5 ½ speedy southpaws with identical reach at 67 inches. Pacquiao, an eight-division champion, has fought exclusively as a welterweight since 2009, while Davis has fought only once above the lightweight limit in recent years, a June 2021 stoppage win against Barrios.
Sean Gibbons, the chief operating officer of Manny Pacquiao Promotions and his right hand man since 2018, told The Ring before Davis’ arrest that matchup was the move to make.
“As for what’s next if Pacquiao beats Barrios, if you look at who’s the biggest draw in American boxing, and who puts the most butts in the most seats, it’s Gervonta Davis,” said Gibbons.
“Gervonta pushes the buttons and is a household name in many ways. Pacquiao and Davis match up very well. For the first time in a long time, Manny would actually be a taller and bigger fighter than his opponent. That’s the dream. We were close at one time to fighting Davis. We were talking but we couldn’t come to an agreement on a couple things and the timing didn’t work out.

“If Pacquiao beats Barrios and Davis beats Roach, I think that’s the fight. The people would be really intrigued. You couldn’t sell it as much before Pacquiao fought Barrios because everyone was saying Gervonta is a beast, but Gervonta got exposed a little bit and had a bad night against Roach, and the shine is off a little bit. If Manny shows brilliance against Barrios, they are going to buy into a Tank fight in a heartbeat.
“Once Manny gets the WBC 147-pound title, it would be a great 47th birthday present to make the fight in December. But everything begins on July 19 against Mario Barrios.”
Pacquiao said even he’s not sure what to expect from himself when he squares off against Barrios (29-2-1, 18 KOs) at MGM Grand in Las Vegas to headline a PBC on Prime Video PPV.
“It’s hard to be judged before the fight, so we will see in the fight,” he said. “You know me, and how I train — I always punish myself to the limit. I always bring surprises to my opponents.”

“let Move Up” Manny Pacquiao challenges Gervonta Davis with one key demand: to fight at 145 or 147 pounds. Will the American agree to move up a weight class?
