Jake Paul vs Gervonta Davis Fight In Jeopardy After Major Announcement

The boxing community is still buzzing about the fact that notorious YouTuber turned professional boxer Jake Paul and reigning WBA lightweight champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis agreed to fight on November 14 in Atlanta, Georgia.

This fight announcement was always going to be massive, given that Paul and Davis are inarguably two of the top five most famous active boxers in the world right now. However, the massive size difference between them has been another reason for discussion (and controversy) since news of them going toe to toe was announced.

READ: Why the Jake Paul Fight is More Than Just a Crossover for Gervont

Paul came in at 199.4 pounds for his cruiserweight fight against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. earlier this summer and weighed 209.4 pounds at the time of the actual fight, according to MMA FightingAs for Davis, he weighted in at 133.8 pounds for his most recent fight, which was a draw against Lamont Roach Jr. on March 1 of this year.

This size difference has made it likely that Paul. vs. Davis will be an exhibition bout, given that most commissions wouldn’t even consider sanctioning a professional fight between two boxers of such vastly different weights.

However, it appears that even if it’s an exhibition, the Georgia commission still isn’t fully committed to letting this fight take place.

Georgia Commission Hasn’t Approved of Jake Paul vs. Gervonta Davis

September 2 article from Josh Peter of USA Today noted that the Georgia Athletic and Entertainment Commission (GAEC), which oversees all boxing events in the state, has still not approved this fight taking place.

“The commission hasn’t approved this event yet, but it could still be considered at a future meeting,’’ Robert A. Sinners, Communications Director for the Secretary of State, was quoted as saying in the article.

The story later adds that the next GAEC board meeting is on September 18, which is likely when the fate of this fight will be decided.

It’s clear that the weight difference between Paul and Davis is the reason for this potential snag in the fight taking place, as the article noted Georgia’s rules and regulations state, “No boxing contest or exhibition may be scheduled, and no boxer may engage in a boxing contest or exhibition without the approval of the commission or the commission’s representative if the difference in weight between the boxers exceeds (a maximum of nine pounds).”

Paul and Davis will undoubtedly have more than a nine-pound difference between them.

While there’s a lot that has to be worked out, it seems that this superfight (at least its location) is up in the air at the moment.

Why the Jake Paul Fight is More Than Just a Crossover for Gervonta Davis

Gervonta Davis takes part in one of the most polarizing boxing events of the year when he collides with Jake Paul on Netflix, but his long-time coach Calvin Ford insists the move is deliberate.

Ford says the WBA lightweight champion has been taking a step back from the glare of both boxing and community work, using the Paul fight as a break from professional competition.

Speaking to The Baltimore Banner during a giveaway in Davis’ hometown of West Baltimore, Ford outlined why the 30-year-old has intentionally scaled back his appearances.

“We don’t let him come as much as he used to,” Ford explained. “Every time he comes, something crazy happens.”

Gervonta Davis steps away
For four years, Davis’ GTD Cares Foundation has been a key part of Unlimited Potential’s summer program, distributing sneakers, backpacks, and school supplies to local children. This year, the charity continued its contributions, providing 350 pairs of sneakers in partnership with DTLR, but Davis himself was absent.

The development is part of a broader change for Davis, who now spends much of his time in Florida, away from repeated legal distractions in Baltimore.

His 2023 hit-and-run case led to jail and probation, followed by later charges that authorities in Florida ultimately dropped.

Ford admitted those factors contribute to why Davis has taken a more private path.

From Lamont Roach to Jake Paul
In the ring, Davis last fought against Lamont Roach on March 1, a fight that many observers felt should have ended in a Davis knockdown and possible first career defeat.

A rematch with Roach appeared to be the obvious route until Netflix confirmed that Davis would instead meet YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul on November 14 in Atlanta.

The fight comes with a considerable weight disparity; Paul can scale up to 195 pounds, while Davis, who is usually a lightweight, has no weight restriction.

But for Ford, the reasoning is clear.

“It’s on Netflix, it’s a no-brainer. It’s a great opportunity.”

Why Davis needs this break
Davis has previously teased retirement and spoken of wanting more time with his three children. Those sentiments appear to be gaining traction.

Ford reinforced the notion that Tank needs space from the relentless grind of pro boxing.

“He’s been doing this since he was seven years old,” Ford said. “At some point, you have to take some time. He’s got kids. Man, he has a family. He’s enjoying life.

“Sometimes you’ve got to take a break and get away.”

For now, Davis is focused squarely on November’s Netflix blockbuster. However, Ford’s words suggest that the Paul fight could be less about spectacle and more about Davis finding balance after years in a high-pressure sport.

Whether that balance leads him back to the elite lightweight or super lightweight division or into the kind of crossover contests that dominate headlines remains uncertain.

As Davis continues to mull over his future, WBN has decided he no longer deserves a place on boxing’s elite Pound for Pound list.

Jake Paul Finally Reveals The Weight Limit For Gervonta Davis Fight

Many questions remain over the Jake Paul vs. Gervonta Davis event taking place later this year.

It was announced late last month that Paul and Davis would collide in a shock match-up at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia on Friday 14 November.

Jake Paul Gervonta Davis

It sees YouTuber-turned-boxer Paul return to action following his victory over former WBC cruiserweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr in June, which came eight months after ‘The Problem Child’ also defeated boxing legend Mike Tyson in a controversial bout.

Paul weighed in at 227lbs for that bout against Tyson, but now will take on a man who weighs nearly 100lbs less than that, as he turns his attention to WBA lightweight champion Davis.

‘Tank’ last competed in March when his title defence against Lamont Roach ended in a majority decision draw, with all signs pointing towards an immediate rematch between the two men taking place next.

It won’t be the case though, with Paul and Davis instead meeting one another, but it is still not official what weight the fight will be at.

‘The Problem Child’ appears to have cleared that up though, after he revealed what weight he has to make for the fight in a video by betr.

“I have to make 195.”

It means Paul will have a huge weight advantage over Davis, who has never weighed in above 140lbs in his career and will lose important attributes by packing on too much. There will also be an eight inch height difference between the two fighters, something that former ‘Tank’ foe Ryan Garcia feels will have a major impact on the fight.

There lies the controversy, and why the fight is likely to be an exhibition with softer rules rather than sanctioned as a pro bout.

Jake Paul has contractual clause added to Gervonta Davis fight to silence critics

Jake Paul is out to bust the myth that he is on performance-enhancing drugs.

‘The Problem Child’ has faced unfounded claims throughout his boxing career that banned substances have fueled his success.

Heading into his upcoming clash against Gervonta Davis on September 14, Paul is aiming to silence his detractors by signing up for random drug testing with the gold standard of anti-doping bodies, USADA.

JUST IN: Terence Crawford’s nutritionist says he knows how to cheat, but

“Don’t worry, for all of you Karens who accuse me of being on steroids as the reason for winning all of my fights, we have the strictest drug testing possible for this match,” Paul said in a recent YouTube video.

“US Anti-Doping Agency. Random drug tests at any moment.”

Who are USADA?

USADA were the official anti-doping authority for the UFC between 2015 and 2024.

A dispute over Conor McGregor’s eligibility to rejoin the UFC’s roster following a period of absence from USADA’s drug testing pool led to the end of a nine-year partnership.

Despite this, the impact of USADA on cleaning up the UFC cannot be overstated.

Before USADA came on board, PED use was a serious problem.

However, USADA’s meticulous random drug testing protocol and harsher punishments led to a significant decrease in the sport’s biggest issue.

Paul bringing USADA on board for his next fight with Davis is a serious statement of intent, even if the bout itself is unlikely to be taken seriously by hardcore fans.

What are the rules for Jake Paul vs Gervonta Davis?

Due to the massive size disparity between the pair, the bout is likely to take place under an exhibition format.

Paul has spent the majority of his career competing at cruiserweight (200lbs) and has boxed as heavy as 227lbs.

Davis, on the other hand, is a natural lightweight (135lbs) who fought at super lightweight (140lbs) once.

The official rules are yet to be confirmed; however, Paul stated earlier this year that the fight would take place over 10 three-minute rounds.

He also suggested that a weight restriction of 195lbs would be enforced on his end, while Davis would have to get as close to that weight as possible.

Besides the exhibition tag, the rules are expected to resemble those of a professional contest, even if there is no official scoring.

Eddie Hearn Reveals Plans for Anthony Joshua’s Next Fight After Jake Paul Fight Collapse

Anthony Joshua’s next fight looked to be against Jake Paul, but with the news the former social media star is facing Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis instead, speculation has naturally turned to who the British heavyweight superstar will box next.

And, during a recent interview with Fight Hype, Joshua’s promoter, Matchroom Boxing boss Eddie Hearn, spoke about who they will come back against once again.

Eddie Hearn Says Anthony Joshua Won’t Fight Until 2026
Anthony Joshua Post Win

Eddie Hearn has revealed that Anthony Joshua won’t fight until 2026. ‘AJ’ has been rumoured for months to make a return to the squared circle later this year, with November being talked about heavily, however, after it was recently announced that Jake Paul will be fighting Gervonta Davis in November, plans have seemingly been pushed back for the former heavyweight world champion’s return.

Hearn recently spoke to Fight Hype and confirmed that Joshua will now instead fight in either January or February next year against someone else.

“We knew Jake might fight in November, we didn’t expect it to be Gervonta. So I don’t really know how that affects us in terms of would we do that fight? The issue is we won’t wait till November.

We are not going to wait until November to make our move, so it is very likely Anthony Joshua will fight in January or February against someone else.”

Now that we know roughly when Joshua will be fighting, talk can once again commence about who his opponent will be.

A fight against 2016 Olympic gold medalist Tony Yoka has been heavily rumoured, and Matchroom Boxing CEO Frank Smith was recently out in Africa looking at potential venues for the event, and Yoka has also confirmed that the fight has a strong chance of taking place in Africa.

Floyd Mayweather’s Forgotten Advice to Gervonta Davis Resurfaces Amid Jake Paul Fight Buzz

Who could have predicted that the decision Floyd Mayweather made on a random day in 2015 would change the boxing world forever? Signing a young, up-and-coming fighter like Gervonta Davis, who had fewer than 10 fights at the time, was certainly a gamble. But it turned out to be one of Mayweather’s best investments. The Baltimore southpaw’s meteoric rise to superstardom is undeniable, and Mayweather played a major role in shaping that journey. Yet, in recent years, their relationship has soured. Since their split, both men have traded subtle shots at each other online, hinting at a rift that runs deeper than business.

As Mayweather marked his 48th birthday, Gervonta Davis seemed to take another dig at his former promoter, posting a training clip captioned: “Life is better when you’re gone and I don’t need ya… #TheONE.” Now, with Tank Davis choosing to face Jake Paul instead of pursuing the Lamont Roach Jr. rematch, an old piece of advice from Mayweather has resurfaced, suggesting that Tank may simply be carrying forward the mindset instilled in him by his former mentor. So what did Mayweather say?

Why Gervonta Davis needs to trust his heart

Yesterday, Boxing Pro took to X to share a TikTok clip with the caption: “Gervonta Tank Davis really just followed the Floyd Mayweather blueprint 💯 💰🐐 #TBE #TankPaul.” The video showed a young Davis on Mayweather’s private jet, seated beside his mentor and listening closely. In the clip, Mayweather offered advice, saying: “If you doing good, they got something to say. If you’re doing bad, they got something to say. So do what makes you happy. Because you see this jet? You see this private jet that we on? I got it because I did what the fu-k I wanted to do.”

Mayweather, whose net worth is reported at $400 million according to Celebrity Net Worth, remains the richest boxer of all time. Just last year, he invested $402 million in a 1,000-unit affordable housing project in Upper Manhattan, featuring 62 buildings. Alongside that, he owns a $40 million car collection and two private jets. For Money Mayweather, the key to all of it was living life and running his career on his own terms. As he told young Davis: “I made over a billion dollars, you know why? Because I did what the fu-k I wanted to do. I am gonna always tell Tank, do what the fu-k you wanna do.”

The undefeated legend also shared a reminder about the burden of success. Speaking directly to Davis, he said, “You always remember this, jealousy comes with success. Anytime you successful, people gonna be jealous of you. People not always gonna like you. Sometimes when you in class, some people don’t like you. When you in school, right? But that don’t stop you from going right? And you still going to be your best, right? So same thing like my job. I still go there and be at my best. As long as you love me, can’t nobody beat me.”

Now, Gervonta Davis is under fire from boxing purists for accepting a bizarre matchup against Jake Paul, with a staggering 65-pound gap. If the 30-0 boxer is truly following Mayweather’s advice, it suggests he wants to retire undefeated, transition into exhibitions, and maximize earnings. The danger, however, is that, unlike Mayweather, who left behind an untouchable legacy, Gervonta Davis risks walking away with unfinished business. By choosing this path, he could avoid high-stakes showdowns with Shakur Stevenson or even a rematch with Lamont Roach. With his exhibition against Jake Paul now officially set for November 14, 2025, at State Farm Arena in Atlanta, streaming live on Netflix, the move has drawn heavy criticism. And now, a veteran journalist has gone so far as to condemn the spectacle, calling it a heartbreaking symbol of American boxing’s collapse.

Caution or collapse? The career gamble facing Gervonta Davis

A few days ago, Denis Shkuratov of Submission Radio sat down with veteran journalist Luke Thomas and asked for his thoughts on the upcoming Jake Paul vs. Gervonta Davis fight. Without hesitation, Thomas responded: “By and large, Jake Paul’s fights su-k a–.” He elaborated, saying: “Everyone knows the score. If they were the same size, Gervonta would lay him out pretty easily. But they’re not. There’s a gigantic difference.” Thomas then posed the question: “Like again, who has got better boxing skill?” before answering it himself: “Gervonta by a million miles.” He added, “And if it’s an exhibition, I don’t think it goes on the record, or maybe they’ll fudge the rule somehow. But dude, Jake Paul could win that.”

However, what shocked Thomas most wasn’t Jake Paul’s skill but the potential outcome being dictated by size. He admitted, “That’s kind of crazy to think. Not because he is better, but because again the advantage concerned is the enormous size difference. It’s interesting… but it just feels like—Jesus, this is the best you can do in American boxing? That is bad.” And bad? Yes, Thomas made it clear he believes its very bad.

For context, Gervonta Davis was already a rising star at 18, winning the 2012 National Golden Gloves Championship, while The Problem Child at that time was building a following on Vine, amassing 5.3 million fans and over 2 billion views by 2015, without any ties to boxing. Although Paul has undeniably improved since turning professional in 2020, a fight with Gervonta Davis does nothing to advance his pursuit of a world title. Instead, it looks more like a money grab than a quest for greatness. In Thomas’ eyes, that’s why it represents the collapse of American boxing.

‘Big Money Events Ever: Dillian Whyte says a fight between Anthony Joshua and Jake Paul could shock the boxing world and turn into one of the biggest ‘big money’ events ever.

Two-time WBC interim heavyweight champion Dillian Whyte has thrown his support behind a potential bout between former heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua and YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul, insisting it would make financial sense for both men

Whyte, a 37-year-old Jamaican-British heavyweight boxer, told the BBC that while the matchup might raise eyebrows, the business side makes it worthwhile.

“It’s a business, man. If [Joshua v Paul] makes sense and does numbers, why not?” Whyte said. “[Joshua] has won the championship twice, had a lot of fights and done a lot, so I don’t know. I’m sure he’ll make more money than he did in some of his title fights. Sometimes, if you can make some money, then make some money.”

Anthony Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, recently revealed talks are ongoing, claiming Paul genuinely believes he can beat the former heavyweight champion.

“At first I thought it was a publicity stunt from Jake, but now the more I speak to them, the more I actually understand; Jake Paul thinks he can beat Anthony Joshua,” Hearn told the BBC.

Whyte also touched on his own unfinished business with Joshua, expressing a desire to avenge his seventh-round knockout defeat in 2015 when the pair fought for the British heavyweight title.
“I would love to have a chance to right my wrong,” Whyte said.

Anthony Joshua Draws Inspiration From Canelo as Jake Paul Gets Sidelined by Andre Ward Callout

He was knocked out cold last September, and months later underwent elbow surgery. It is now approaching a year since fans last saw Anthony Joshua in action. However, if not inside the ring, the former unified heavyweight champion still seems to be making waves outside it.

The Olympic gold medalist has once again become a hot commodity. News of a potential matchup with Jake Paul has already made headlines. But now, it appears Joshua has received a callout from a new suitor.

JUST IN: ‘Usyk may be the best ever, but he’s never faced

On June 17, 2017, Andre Ward knocked out Sergey Kovalev to defend his unified light heavyweight championship. But just a month later, he stunned the boxing world by announcing his retirement. An Olympic gold medalist like Joshua, Ward has since made a name for himself as a boxing analyst and, more recently, a podcaster. However, the Hall of Famer believes he might still have one fight left in him. And a bout with Anthony Joshua appears, in his view, to be the best route to elevating his legacy. His callout, however, drew a sharp, Canelo-inspired retort from the British heavyweight.

Ward uploaded a video on Instagram, and the reason it went viral is quite simple. Speaking about his post-retirement journey, the 2021 International Boxing Hall of Fame inductee said that if any fight could entice him back into the ring, it would be a face-off with Anthony Joshua. “Most days, I don’t miss it. I’m very content doing what I’m doing in life right now. Who would I fight? That’s the problem. It’s a lot of names out there, but it’s not a lot of names that make sense,” Ward said while sitting inside his car.

Still, there is one name that could potentially change the scenario. “If the business was right and everything was right on that front, me and Anthony Joshua,” Ward said before adding, “That’s a fight that I would take at Wembley Stadium.” He acknowledged. The fight could possibly put a dent in his legacy and even leave him physically hurt. Still, “that’s a fight that would get me in the gym and get me in the mindset that I need to be in to go to war. “It’s Anthony Joshua.

Ward concluded while hurling a subtle jibe. Though talk of a Jake Paul fight has been gathering steam, AJ could still consider a ‘real fight.’ The post drew a string of comments and reactions, with close friend Andre Berto sounding particularly upbeat. However, it didn’t take long for Ward to receive a response from the man himself. Recalling Canelo’s past words, in which he accused Ward of calling him out purely for monetary reasons, Anthony Joshua fired back: “Pay Day Pay Day (Canelo).

Andre Ward responded. “Anthony Joshua, of course, brother. Do you fight for free? Business is always a reason, but not the only reason. I think you understand that.

Andre Ward sets sights on Anthony Joshua

When one user pointed out to Joshua that Ward had been calling him out for years, the English heavyweight issued a chilling reminder. Gauging fights merely by watching YouTube could prove detrimental. It’s different from a real fight.

It is certainly a surprising move from Andre Ward. Just months ago, he had seemingly expressed interest in facing Jake Paul!

To be fair to Andre Ward, this is not the first time he mentioned Anthony Joshua’s name. Four years ago, while speaking on ‘The AK & Barak Show,’ he minced no words. If he were to make a comeback, he would take Anthony Joshua first. When Barak Bess asked, “You make a comeback and you fight Anthony Joshua and beat him, or you make a comeback and fight Canelo and beat him,” Ward replied, “I’m going (for) Anthony Joshua.

Whether the 35-year-old Anthony Joshua chooses to face an in-prime fighter like Jake Paul, whose star has been rising by leaps and bounds, or opts to settle the debate with an aging former world champion who has been out of the ring for eight years, is something fans will have to wait and see.
