Angel Reese Sparks Uproar With Explosive Take on Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis After Controversial Draw

WNBA superstar Angel Reese was one of the many watching Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis fight to a draw against Lamont Roach.

The boxing world had its focus centered on Gervonta “Tank” Davis during his March 1 fight against Lamont Roach for the WBA lightweight championship.

Tank Davis has solidified himself as one of the biggest superstars in the entire sport of boxing, as he entered the fight against Roach with a perfect 30-0 professional record that includes 28 KOs. Some of his most notable victories came against Ryan Garcia, Rolando Romero, and Isaac Cruz.

And given that Davis entered Saturday’s bout as a -1600 favorite against Roach, very few people believed that the 29-year-old Roach would be able to put up a solid fight against the reigning champion.

As a result of his success, Davis has amassed a massive fanbase in America. And according to a March 1 X post from Chicago Sky superstar Angel Reese, she was also rooting for Davis during his fight.

While Angel Reese isn’t well known in the boxing community, she has quickly become one of the biggest stars in the basketball world after her successful rookie season in the WNBA. However, she is perhaps best known for her rivalry with Indiana Fever superstar Caitlin Clark, which stems from Reese taunting her during the 2023 NCAA National Championship game.

Serena Williams faces backlash after admitting to weight-loss drug use

Serena Williams has found herself at the center of a heated debate after openly revealing that she turned to weight-loss medication to shed more than 30 pounds.

The 43-year-old tennis icon, who has inspired millions with her dominance on the court, faced immediate criticism online after announcing her new partnership with GLP-1 medicine company Ro.

On Thursday, the brand shared a joint Instagram post showing Williams injecting herself with the weekly treatment. In the video, the 23-time Grand Slam champion explained that the medicine was something her body “needed” following the birth of her two daughters.

Fans slam Serena Williams for pushing 'dangerous' agenda with weight-loss medication admission: 'Very disappointing'

Her candid admission, however, drew sharp backlash. Many fans argued that Williams’ endorsement could set a harmful precedent, particularly for young athletes and women struggling with body image.

One commenter wrote, “As an athlete and an influencer, it’s a shame that you’re reiterating the narrative that you need to take medication to be healthy and achieve an acceptable standard of beauty. This video made me really sad and disappointed.” Another added, “‘After kids this is the medicine my body needed.’ Needed? Fantastic, now we can undo all the progression we made on letting women know it’s ok to take time, recover and get back in shape or not to.”

A divisive moment for an inspirational figure

For decades, Williamshas been celebrated for her strength, resilience, and groundbreaking achievements in a sport that has not always been welcoming to women of color. That legacy, critics argue, makes her decision to promote weight-loss injections especially fraught.

“The messaging here is so wrong coming from an athlete like her and very dangerous for society,” one fan commented, while another said, “You can put whatever you want in your body but let’s not call it healthcare! This is so disturbing to me coming from a former elite athlete.”

A fifth person went further, calling it a “terrible message to our youth,” particularly young female athletes who may view Williams as a role model.

Despite the criticism, Williams insists she made the decision for her own health and wellbeing. Speaking to People earlier this week, she said, “I feel great. I feel really good and healthy. I feel light physically and light mentally.”

The four-time Olympic gold medalist revealed that her weight struggles began in 2017 after delivering her eldest daughter, Alexis Olympia, via emergency C-section.

“I never was able to get to the weight I needed to be, no matter what I did, no matter how much I trained,” she admitted. “It was crazy because I’d never been in a place like that in my life where I worked so hard, ate so healthy and could never get down to where I needed to be at.”

Williams said she researched Ro extensively before beginning treatment six months after the birth of her second daughter, Adira, in August 2023.

While her openness has sparked outrage in some circles, it has also fueled broader conversations about postpartum health, the pressures of body image, and the increasing normalization of celebrity endorsements for weight-loss medications.

Whether fans view her choice as empowering honesty or a harmful example, Williams’ revelation underscores the complex intersection of sports, wellness, and cultural expectations around women’s bodies.

Simone Biles gives cryptic three-word response when asked about LA 2028 participation

Simone Biles, the most decorated gymnast in history, has hinted that she could return at the 2028 Olympic Games after initially casting doubt over her future.

Biles, 28, made a stunning comeback at the 2024 Paris Olympics and won three gold medals for Team USA after withdrawing from the 2020 Tokyo Olympics due to mental health issues. Her performance in Paris led to her being named one of just five athletes in Time Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People.

In April, Biles said that she was prioritizing her personal life and spending quality time with her husband, Jonathan Owens, an NFL player for the Chicago Bears. Biles said she would only return if the opportunity excited her, but she has now failed to rule out competing in Los Angeles.

Speaking at the Ready25 conference in Australia, Biles was asked if she’d consider competing in the 2028 Olympics, which will be held on U.S. soil. Biles replied: “Never say never.”

Biles has dominated gymnastics since winning her first gold at the 2013 World Championships in Antwerp, Belgium. Biles has 23 World Championship gold medals over a 10-year span.

Her performance in Paris stood out. She won gold in the team, all-around, and vault competitions, demonstrating her longevity in gymnastics.

Biles rose to fame in 2016 when she won four gold medals in Rio de Janeiro, but fans were concerned for her well-being in Tokyo. Biles experienced the twisties during practice and claimed that she felt the weight of the world on her shoulders.

After being open about her struggles, Biles’ dominant return in Paris was even more impressive. Naturally, Biles has faced constant questioning about her future in gymnastics due to her overwhelming popularity.

In April, Biles admitted that her priorities were elsewhere. “I’m really trying to enjoy life, to spend time with my husband, go support him at his games, live my life as a woman,” she said in an interview with L’Equipe.

“I’ve accomplished so much in my sport. For me to come back, it would really have to excite me.”

Biles confirmed that she would be in Los Angeles for the Olympics but hadn’t decided what role she would play. “Whether on the apparatus or in the stands, I still don’t know that,” she added.

“But 2028 seems so far away, and my body is aging. I felt it in Paris.” Biles admitted that she collapsed in the Olympic Village after winning in Paris, and her body took a long time to recover fully.

“I went back to the village, I took the elevator and my body literally collapsed. I was sick for 10 days,” she said. “The other day, we were sprinting in the garden with friends, I had aches and pains for three days. So, I honestly don’t know. We’ll see.”

Novak Djokovic is not only Grand Slam king—he’s a devoted tennis fan.

The 38-year-old Serbian superstar, like many tennis fans around the world, celebrated the sight of Serena Williams inducting former rival and now good friend Maria Sharapova into the International Tennis Hall of Fame on Saturday night.

Djokovic was so invigorated by the sight of Serena at the iconic Newport Hall, he took time out during his US Open press conference to night to issue a challenge to his fellow GOAT.

The 24-time Grand Slam champion Djokovic challenged the 23-time major title holder Serena Williams, his former Wimbledon dance partner, to make a competitive comeback in 2026.

“Of course, seeing Serena in any shape or form around tennis is great. You know, we miss her,” Djokovic told the media after defeating American Learner Tien 6-1, 7-6(3), 6-2. “She still hasn’t
officially retired (smiling).

“So I invite her, I challenge her. Because she’s such a great competitor, when somebody challenges her, she never refuses. So I challenge Serena, come back on the tour next year.”

The owner of 100 career titles, Djokovic is good friend with both Sharapova and Williams and said the sight of the former rivals embracing on stage and Serena’s touching tribute to Maria was “a wonderful moment” for both champions and the sport.

“It was surprising, but very nice gesture from Serena to be there for Maria,” said Djokovic, who reunited with fellow Big 4 icons Roger Federer, Andy Murray and Rafael Nadal at a powerful Roland Garros tribute ceremony to the King of Clay earlier this season. “They had some really intense rivalries and incredible matches over the years.

“But they said it, they were honest I think during their speeches. Serena I think mentioned that Maria or people probably think about Serena as one of the last people that would be there to introduce. But at the same time, as she said in her speech, which I think she beautifully, eloquently explained, that people thought that they are miles apart in their differences, but they were actually very much the same in terms of they wanted the same thing and competed on the same tour for so many years.

“No, it was great. It was great. It was wonderful moment, and I think Maria deserves it.”

Canelo Alvarez Can Secure The One Fight He Wants Most If He Beats Terence Crawford

Canelo Alvarez‘s highly anticipated ‘super-fight’ with Terence ‘Bud’ Crawford is fast approaching and there is an extra carrot being dangled with a win.

The 35-year-old from Guadalajara, Mexico is set to defend his undisputed super-middleweight world championship against the unbeaten American on Saturday September 13 at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Canelo has proved himself to be a dominant force at 168lbs since he made the move up from middleweight back in 2018, racking up victories over the likes of Jermell Charlo, Callum Smith, Jaime Munguia and Gennady Golovkin along the way. He has lost just twice in his career, to Floyd Mayweather and Dmitry Bivol.

JUST IN: Deontay Wilder vs Francis Ngannou fight takes huge blow as prom

Bivol handed the Mexican great a points defeat when they clashed in 2022 for the Russian’s light-heavyweight title. Canelo has since said that it is the one fight he wants in the future, desperate to avenge the loss.

Speaking to World Boxing News, Bivol’s manager Vadim Kornilov claimed that the Russian star is indeed open to facing Canelo next, but questions whether the 35-year-old does actually want to do battle once again.

“I am not sure if Canelo actually wants the fight. We heard many times that he does want to avenge his loss, but if everything goes well with rehab, Bivol should be ready to fight in the first quarter of next year.”

Bivol defeated Canelo via unanimous decision when they clashed at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas back in May of 2022, successfully defending his WBA world light-heavyweight title in the process.

The 34-year-old from Russia would go on to achieve his dream of becoming the undisputed champion at 175lbs in February of this year, defeating Artur Beterbiev via majority decision in their thrilling rematch in Riyadh, gaining revenge for the defeat that he suffered at the hands of his fellow countryman back in October.

Talk of a trilogy has dampened, though Kornilov says it is still on the table and that his charge wants no tune-up fights after recovering from back surgery. Beterbiev is out on November 22 against Deon Nicholson. Also on the table for Bivol in 2026 is David Benavidez, who faces Anthony Yarde on that same card.

First up is Canelo-Crawford, with the Mexican potentially calling out Bivol post-fight should he win, but more likely a rematch with Crawford if he loses.

Deontay Wilder vs Francis Ngannou fight takes huge blow as promoter gives new conflicting update

Deontay Wilder’s advisor, Shelly Finkel, has ruled out Francis Ngannou as his next opponent.

Wilder and Ngannou have been heavily linked to fighting in the past, and according to the latter they were close to finalising a bout before the end of 2025.

Ngannou recently issued an update that they were setting things up in order to action a crossover bout between the rivals.

JUST IN:Jake Paul has contractual clause added to Gervonta Davis fight to

Although, Wilder’s camp have since revealed their stance on the matter.

Finkel told World Boxing News that the potential MMA-boxing crossover bout between the two stars won’t be taking place any time soon.

He said: “Deontay Wilder will not be facing Francis Ngannou in 2025.

“That fight is not happening this year.”

Wilder is coming off of a win against Tyrrell Herndon in June, hosted by Global Combat Collective, which ended via knockout in the seventh-round.

When asked about Wilder having a potential contract with them to host his next fight, Finkell also shut down that rumour.

He stated: “Deontay doesn’t have a deal with anyone.”

‘The Bronze Bomber’ welcomed a return to winning ways against Herndon, having lost his previous two bouts against Joseph Parker and Zhilei Zhang.

He boasts a professional record of 44-4-1, with his only other two losses coming against Tyson Fury.

While it is off the cards for now, there is still a chance that Wilder could face Ngannou next year in what would be guaranteed to be an explosive bout.

Ngannou is a decorated MMA legend, he is 0-2 in his boxing ventures having lost to both Fury and Anthony Joshua.

The former UFC heavyweight champion made the move to the Professional Fighters League (PFL).

Although he has only fought once since his UFC departure, against Renan Ferreira, Ngannou is expected to be pursuing a return to the cage by any means.

What’s next for Deontay Wilder?

Finkel’s comments seem to suggest that Wilder is pursuing a traditional boxing bout for his next outing.

The Bronze Bomber’s famous advisor had suggested that he will fight before the end of 2026.

But it is likely he will once again take to the ring in a lower-level tune-up fight to try and continue his positive momentum, after ending a two-fight skid of defeats.

Wilder has also been linked to a number of alternative opponents including British heavyweight Dave Allen.

But Allen is instead now fighting Arslanbek Makhmudov and is now out of the running.

It is likely that the commercial mega fights that he so craves against the likes of undisputed champion Oleksandr Usyk and Anthony Joshua won’t materialise until 2026.

Jake Paul has contractual clause added to Gervonta Davis fight to silence critics

Jake Paul is out to bust the myth that he is on performance-enhancing drugs.

‘The Problem Child’ has faced unfounded claims throughout his boxing career that banned substances have fueled his success.

Heading into his upcoming clash against Gervonta Davis on September 14, Paul is aiming to silence his detractors by signing up for random drug testing with the gold standard of anti-doping bodies, USADA.

JUST IN: Terence Crawford’s nutritionist says he knows how to cheat, but

“Don’t worry, for all of you Karens who accuse me of being on steroids as the reason for winning all of my fights, we have the strictest drug testing possible for this match,” Paul said in a recent YouTube video.

“US Anti-Doping Agency. Random drug tests at any moment.”

Who are USADA?

USADA were the official anti-doping authority for the UFC between 2015 and 2024.

A dispute over Conor McGregor’s eligibility to rejoin the UFC’s roster following a period of absence from USADA’s drug testing pool led to the end of a nine-year partnership.

Despite this, the impact of USADA on cleaning up the UFC cannot be overstated.

Before USADA came on board, PED use was a serious problem.

However, USADA’s meticulous random drug testing protocol and harsher punishments led to a significant decrease in the sport’s biggest issue.

Paul bringing USADA on board for his next fight with Davis is a serious statement of intent, even if the bout itself is unlikely to be taken seriously by hardcore fans.

What are the rules for Jake Paul vs Gervonta Davis?

Due to the massive size disparity between the pair, the bout is likely to take place under an exhibition format.

Paul has spent the majority of his career competing at cruiserweight (200lbs) and has boxed as heavy as 227lbs.

Davis, on the other hand, is a natural lightweight (135lbs) who fought at super lightweight (140lbs) once.

The official rules are yet to be confirmed; however, Paul stated earlier this year that the fight would take place over 10 three-minute rounds.

He also suggested that a weight restriction of 195lbs would be enforced on his end, while Davis would have to get as close to that weight as possible.

Besides the exhibition tag, the rules are expected to resemble those of a professional contest, even if there is no official scoring.

Terence Crawford’s nutritionist says he knows how to cheat, but doesn’t

Terence Crawford’s long-time nutritionist, Victor Conte, has hit back strongly at claims that he openly admitted to knowing how to beat almost every performance-enhancing drug (PED) test in boxing.

Conte, founder of SNAC (Scientific Nutrition for Advanced Conditioning), clarified that detractors took his words out of context after suggestions surfaced that he bragged about cheating the anti-doping system.

In a direct response, Conte said his critics deliberately blurred the difference between knowing loopholes and actively cheating.

Victor Conte sets the record straight
“Knowing how to beat doping tests and actually doing so are two different things,” Conte stated. “(People are) dead wrong for jumping to an inaccurate conclusion.

“I do know how to circumvent some but not all doping tests. I never said ‘all’ doping tests. This is an inaccurate interpretation of what I said.”

Conte explained that while certain endogenous hormones, such as growth hormone, EPO, insulin, and testosterone, could theoretically be microdosed to evade detection, he stressed that anabolic steroids cannot be hidden and would be picked up by modern testing systems.

“I never said I know how to beat all tests. This is simply a lie. Let’s be clear. Knowing how and actually cheating are two different things,” pointed out Conte.

“I have not given a boxer anything prohibited since 2003, or 22 years ago. All SNAC boxers are clean and do not use any illegal or prohibited substances. Period.”

‘I would bet my life on it’
Conte’s insistence follows fierce online criticism, with some boxing fans openly questioning whether fans can fully trust SNAC fighters. One viral post asked bluntly:

“Would you bet your life on that, Victor?”

Conte responded emphatically:

“I would bet my life that I have not provided any athlete with any prohibited substance in the last 22 years.”

Crawford’s PED shadow
The controversy highlights the continued fragility of boxing’s reputation when it comes to doping.

With high-profile suspensions and failed tests still damaging the sport, even the suggestion of loopholes sparks skepticism from hardcore fans.

Conte, however, maintains that Crawford and all fighters under the SNAC banner are operating under the strictest standards.

His rebuttal draws a clear line between past mistakes and current practice, stressing that speculation does not equal fact.

Crawford remains shadowed by association ahead of his fight with Canelo Alvarez on September 13, but Conte is adamant he’s been squeaky clean since the Shane Mosley scandal of 2003.

Eddie Hearn Reveals Plans for Anthony Joshua’s Next Fight After Jake Paul Fight Collapse

Anthony Joshua’s next fight looked to be against Jake Paul, but with the news the former social media star is facing Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis instead, speculation has naturally turned to who the British heavyweight superstar will box next.

And, during a recent interview with Fight Hype, Joshua’s promoter, Matchroom Boxing boss Eddie Hearn, spoke about who they will come back against once again.

Eddie Hearn Says Anthony Joshua Won’t Fight Until 2026
Anthony Joshua Post Win

Eddie Hearn has revealed that Anthony Joshua won’t fight until 2026. ‘AJ’ has been rumoured for months to make a return to the squared circle later this year, with November being talked about heavily, however, after it was recently announced that Jake Paul will be fighting Gervonta Davis in November, plans have seemingly been pushed back for the former heavyweight world champion’s return.

Hearn recently spoke to Fight Hype and confirmed that Joshua will now instead fight in either January or February next year against someone else.

“We knew Jake might fight in November, we didn’t expect it to be Gervonta. So I don’t really know how that affects us in terms of would we do that fight? The issue is we won’t wait till November.

We are not going to wait until November to make our move, so it is very likely Anthony Joshua will fight in January or February against someone else.”

Now that we know roughly when Joshua will be fighting, talk can once again commence about who his opponent will be.

A fight against 2016 Olympic gold medalist Tony Yoka has been heavily rumoured, and Matchroom Boxing CEO Frank Smith was recently out in Africa looking at potential venues for the event, and Yoka has also confirmed that the fight has a strong chance of taking place in Africa.

Floyd Mayweather’s Forgotten Advice to Gervonta Davis Resurfaces Amid Jake Paul Fight Buzz

Who could have predicted that the decision Floyd Mayweather made on a random day in 2015 would change the boxing world forever? Signing a young, up-and-coming fighter like Gervonta Davis, who had fewer than 10 fights at the time, was certainly a gamble. But it turned out to be one of Mayweather’s best investments. The Baltimore southpaw’s meteoric rise to superstardom is undeniable, and Mayweather played a major role in shaping that journey. Yet, in recent years, their relationship has soured. Since their split, both men have traded subtle shots at each other online, hinting at a rift that runs deeper than business.

As Mayweather marked his 48th birthday, Gervonta Davis seemed to take another dig at his former promoter, posting a training clip captioned: “Life is better when you’re gone and I don’t need ya… #TheONE.” Now, with Tank Davis choosing to face Jake Paul instead of pursuing the Lamont Roach Jr. rematch, an old piece of advice from Mayweather has resurfaced, suggesting that Tank may simply be carrying forward the mindset instilled in him by his former mentor. So what did Mayweather say?

Why Gervonta Davis needs to trust his heart

Yesterday, Boxing Pro took to X to share a TikTok clip with the caption: “Gervonta Tank Davis really just followed the Floyd Mayweather blueprint 💯 💰🐐 #TBE #TankPaul.” The video showed a young Davis on Mayweather’s private jet, seated beside his mentor and listening closely. In the clip, Mayweather offered advice, saying: “If you doing good, they got something to say. If you’re doing bad, they got something to say. So do what makes you happy. Because you see this jet? You see this private jet that we on? I got it because I did what the fu-k I wanted to do.”

Mayweather, whose net worth is reported at $400 million according to Celebrity Net Worth, remains the richest boxer of all time. Just last year, he invested $402 million in a 1,000-unit affordable housing project in Upper Manhattan, featuring 62 buildings. Alongside that, he owns a $40 million car collection and two private jets. For Money Mayweather, the key to all of it was living life and running his career on his own terms. As he told young Davis: “I made over a billion dollars, you know why? Because I did what the fu-k I wanted to do. I am gonna always tell Tank, do what the fu-k you wanna do.”

The undefeated legend also shared a reminder about the burden of success. Speaking directly to Davis, he said, “You always remember this, jealousy comes with success. Anytime you successful, people gonna be jealous of you. People not always gonna like you. Sometimes when you in class, some people don’t like you. When you in school, right? But that don’t stop you from going right? And you still going to be your best, right? So same thing like my job. I still go there and be at my best. As long as you love me, can’t nobody beat me.”

Now, Gervonta Davis is under fire from boxing purists for accepting a bizarre matchup against Jake Paul, with a staggering 65-pound gap. If the 30-0 boxer is truly following Mayweather’s advice, it suggests he wants to retire undefeated, transition into exhibitions, and maximize earnings. The danger, however, is that, unlike Mayweather, who left behind an untouchable legacy, Gervonta Davis risks walking away with unfinished business. By choosing this path, he could avoid high-stakes showdowns with Shakur Stevenson or even a rematch with Lamont Roach. With his exhibition against Jake Paul now officially set for November 14, 2025, at State Farm Arena in Atlanta, streaming live on Netflix, the move has drawn heavy criticism. And now, a veteran journalist has gone so far as to condemn the spectacle, calling it a heartbreaking symbol of American boxing’s collapse.

Caution or collapse? The career gamble facing Gervonta Davis

A few days ago, Denis Shkuratov of Submission Radio sat down with veteran journalist Luke Thomas and asked for his thoughts on the upcoming Jake Paul vs. Gervonta Davis fight. Without hesitation, Thomas responded: “By and large, Jake Paul’s fights su-k a–.” He elaborated, saying: “Everyone knows the score. If they were the same size, Gervonta would lay him out pretty easily. But they’re not. There’s a gigantic difference.” Thomas then posed the question: “Like again, who has got better boxing skill?” before answering it himself: “Gervonta by a million miles.” He added, “And if it’s an exhibition, I don’t think it goes on the record, or maybe they’ll fudge the rule somehow. But dude, Jake Paul could win that.”

However, what shocked Thomas most wasn’t Jake Paul’s skill but the potential outcome being dictated by size. He admitted, “That’s kind of crazy to think. Not because he is better, but because again the advantage concerned is the enormous size difference. It’s interesting… but it just feels like—Jesus, this is the best you can do in American boxing? That is bad.” And bad? Yes, Thomas made it clear he believes its very bad.

For context, Gervonta Davis was already a rising star at 18, winning the 2012 National Golden Gloves Championship, while The Problem Child at that time was building a following on Vine, amassing 5.3 million fans and over 2 billion views by 2015, without any ties to boxing. Although Paul has undeniably improved since turning professional in 2020, a fight with Gervonta Davis does nothing to advance his pursuit of a world title. Instead, it looks more like a money grab than a quest for greatness. In Thomas’ eyes, that’s why it represents the collapse of American boxing.
